Adam J. Blahnik is the managing attorney at Blahnik Law Office, PLLC. He focuses his practice on family law, including divorce, child custody, child support, spousal maintenance and complex property division. Mr. Blahnik has worked in the legal profession since 1999, and is well respected within the Minnesota family law community. He initially worked as a paralegal at a twin cities law firm, and has been a practicing attorney since 2005. Mr. Blahnik founded Blahnik Law Office, PLLC in 2010.

Mr. Blahnik is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association and a member of the family law section therein. He is a member of the First District Bar Association and Eighth District Bar Association, which cover Dakota County, Goodhue County, Scott County, Carver County, Le Sueur County, Sibley County and McLeod County. Mr. Blahnik was the secretary/treasurer of the Fist District Bar Association in 2013-14, the vice president in 2014-15, and will be the president in 2015-16.

Mr. Blahnik is licensed to practice before the Tribal Court of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux (Dakota) Community in Prior Lake and the Tribal Court of the Prairie Island Mdewakanton Dakota Community. He handles complex jurisdictional matters involving family law proceedings simultaneously commenced in Tribal Court and Minnesota District Court.

Mr. Blahnik has given legal presentations on family law topics, including:

  • “UCCJEA Basics in Minnesota” at a family law seminar on February 12, 2008 (presentation on the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act); and
  • “Gender Fairness in Family Law” on March 29, 2010 (a presentation on the Minnesota Supreme Court Task Force for gender fairness in the Courts).

In addition to having his law office in Prior Lake, Mr. Blahnik also resides in Prior Lake with his wife, Terrie. Mr. Blahnik is very active within his community. He is a member of, and was on the Board of Directors of the Prior Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of, and was on the Board of Directors of the Prior Lake Rotary Club; and was president of the Prior Lake Rotary Club in 2012-13. In 2011, Mr. Blahnik was appointed as a Commissioner to the Prior Lake Planning Commission and is currently serving on the Planning Commission. He is also a past member of the Prior Lake Economic Development Advisory Committee (EDAC).

Mr. Blahnik teaches Junior Achievement classes to first and second graders at the public schools in Prior Lake. He has judged mock trials for Minnesota high school students. He has also taught classes on “how to start your own business” as part of the Community Education Program through the Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools.

Mr. Blahnik was born in the city of Rochester, Minnesota. He grew up on a small farm with his six siblings near the town of Caledonia, Minnesota located in the far southeastern corner of Minnesota. He graduated from Caledonia High School in 1995. Mr. Blahnik attended post-secondary education at Mankato State University, and graduated from Winona State University in Winona, Minnesota in 1999, with a Bachelor of Science degree with a Paralegal major and a Political Science minor. He received his Juris Doctor degree from William Mitchell College of Law in 2005 and has been a practicing attorney since 2005. He was admitted to practice law in the State of Minnesota in 2005. Mr. Blahnik is also licensed to practice before the United States District Court, District of Minnesota.

Mr. Blahnik is also a “qualified neutral” for family law matters in the State of Minnesota, which allows him to be a family law mediator. He does devote some of his practice as a mediator in divorce, child custody, child support and other family law matters.

Mr. Blahnik enjoys spending time with his wife, Terrie and their two dogs and two cats. He enjoys the Minnesota outdoors. As part of his “country roots,” he also enjoys gardening – perennials, vegetables and any “edibles.” He also espouses the concepts of permaculture, which is the development of agriculture, architecture and social systems intended to be sustainable and self-sufficient – working with, rather than against nature.
