The City of Jordan dates back to the 1850's. By the late 1850's, Jordan was established with a hotel, church, school, tavern, post office, two mills, and a number of new homes. Although all of these things existed, the city still had no name. William Holms named the city Jordan after the biblical river.

From 1872 to 1929 the city of Jordan moved to have the county seat of Scott County in Jordan, but failed. The county seat was established in 1853 and remains in Shakopee, Minnesota, to this day. In 1892, Jordan was officially incorporated as a city. The Jordan City Hall is located at 210 1st Street East, #1, Jordan, Minnesota 55352.  Jordan had a population of 5,470 as of 2010 (according to the 2010 Census).
